Now Hiring: Office Assistant

​

Full-time continuing, 40 hours per week, 9 am - 5 pm.

Wage: $17-$19/hr  *dependant on experience & education

​

​

Description:

The Office Assistant provides administrative support to the office, assists with programming including working one-to-one with learners and facilitating group learning sessions and maintains all marketing and social media.

​

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administrative office tasks including answering phones and scheduling appointments

  • Help drop-in learners with literacy tasks and advocacy support

  • Work one to one with learners for form completion, English language support, technology tutoring, intake and orientation

  • Maintain statistics and assist with reporting

  • Maintain website and social media sites

  • Create posters and other marketing materials

  • Liaise with tutors and learners

  • Assist with planning events

  • Perform other duties as delegated by other staff

​

Position requirements:

      Some training will be provided

​

Skills and Abilities:

  • Superior computer skills including proficiency in design and extensive knowledge of Word and Excel

  • Excellent communication skills, including patience and listening skills

  • Ability to problem solve on the spot with minimal supervision

  • Must be passionate about learning and helping others

  • Must be comfortable working with vulnerable populations

  • Must demonstrate a good working knowledge of literacy issues and the digital divide.

  • Must demonstrate a good working knowledge of the issues facing immigrants and newcomers today.

  • Must demonstrate a good working knowledge of the issues facing Indigenous communities today. 

​

Professional Experience:

  1. Experience working with adults and families in a learning environment would be an asset

  2. Experience working with vulnerable populations would be an asset

  3. A background in administrative human services would be an asset

 

Knowledge:

A keen understanding of the broad definition of literacy and the issues confronting Canadian societies today

​
